A Guided Scavenger Hunt Built for the Old Port
Scavenge Portland was created to bring something a little different to Portland’s Old Port: a hosted scavenger hunt that feels social, competitive, and easy to enjoy. We are not trying to be just another app-based activity. We are here to create a live experience that helps groups explore the city, connect with each other, and have a genuinely good time.

How It Started
Scavenge Portland started after Derek did a scavenger hunt with friends back in 2019 and realized it would be a fun thing to bring to the Old Port with a bar-hop element added in. Like a lot of event-based businesses, the path after Covid was not perfectly straightforward, but the concept kept growing little by little each year.
To put it simply, Derek is a father of two, a finish carpenter by day, and someone who wanted to bring a higher-quality scavenger-hunt experience to Portland after seeing the potential for it firsthand.

What Makes Scavenge Portland Different
The biggest difference is that this is a guided experience. Derek is there to explain the rules, answer questions, meet groups at stops, and tally scores to keep the game moving. That live-hosted approach makes the hunt feel more polished, more interactive, and easier for groups to enjoy than a non-guided phone-based experience.
Our Mission
Our Mission
Our mission is to create a fun and different experience in the Old Port for bachelor and bachelorette parties, corporate events, birthdays, and other group outings. We also want the hunt to help people explore the city, support other local businesses, and enjoy something different in a place that already has a lot to offer.
Who It’s For
We built Scavenge Portland for groups that want something more interactive than another typical outing. Company teams, bachelor and bachelorette groups, birthdays, and visitors looking for something fun to do in Portland all fit naturally into what we do.
Meet Derek
Derek has called Portland home for more than 30 years and knows the Old Port as both a local and a fan. He is the owner of Scavenge Portland, which he started seven years ago after doing a scavenger hunt with friends a decade ago and realizing Portland needed its own version of that experience.
As a father of two young kids, Derek understands how valuable it is to create experiences that are genuinely fun, easy to enjoy, and memorable for the people taking part. He loves exploring Portland’s food and cocktail scene, spending time outdoors, and playing just about every kind of game he can get his hands on, from board games and card games to video games, sports, and beach volleyball.
That mix of local knowledge, competitive spirit, and love of fun group experiences is a big part of what makes Scavenge Portland feel different. This is not just a business. This is our way of sharing a version of Portland we know so well and help groups experience it in a way that feels lively, personal, and anything but ordinary.
